Overview
Beset by gangsterism and violence, Manyano High School went from chaos to success, winning the Premier’s Award for Most Improved School in the process.
Objectives
To counteract the negative influences of gang violence and drug abuse, and provide a conducive school environment.
Deliverables
There have been no incidents of violence in the last two years. The Matric pass rate increased from 42% in 2011 to 81% in 2013 and has remained at over 80% since. It was the winner of the Premier’s Award for Most Improved School in 2013.
Outcome
Through youth-led action and the desire of the pupils to change their circumstances for the better, Manyano High School has undergone and sustained a radical and positive transformation.
