Radio remains an important medium of communication, reaching over 88% of people in rural and urban centers aged 15 years and older in a typical week in South Africa. As part of its response to the COVID-19 pandemic Columba Leadership is partnering with community stations to bring programmes that empower and engage young people. This ensures continued support to young people and educators in their leadership journey. Since April 2020 Columba in partnership with Inanda FM, a community radio station in Kwa Zulu Natal, has produced thought provoking radio programmes inspiring and challenging young people to step up and lead in whatever circumstance they find themselves. Jean Armstrong, CEO of Columba Leadership says, “Working with Inanda FM and other community stations allows us the important opportunity to connect with young people and communities on the importance of leadership in these challenging times.” The programme has also opened up the Columba values to a whole new audience of young people who have not been part of the programme,planting a seed of change that goes beyond the schools and communities we have partnered with thus far.
