Developing Confident Learner Leaders at Louwville High School with Columba Leadership
Posted / 23 April 2025
Being part of a strong and effective leadership structure at school empowers learner leaders to develop confidence, build self-worth, and contribute meaningfully to their communities. Columba’s purpose is to awaken the leader within through a values-based leadership approach.
Recently, we had the privilege of working with 15 members of the Representative Council of Learners (RCL) at Louwville High School, situated on the West Coast and supported by Umoya Energy . The training focused on helping these young leaders understand their roles and responsibilities clearly, while also fostering self-leadership. Through a series of practical activities and reflective discussions, grounded in Columba’s six core values—awareness, focus, creativity, integrity, perseverance, and service—the learners explored how to lead with purpose and integrity within their school community.
By the end of the session, the RCL members expressed a noticeable increase in confidence, both in themselves and in their leadership roles. The workshop also strengthened their teamwork and cultivated a shared sense of purpose—qualities essential for inspiring their peers and driving positive change.
Together, the learners identified key focus areas for the year ahead: addressing late arrival to school, promoting pride in the school uniform, and improving academic performance. These priorities reflect their commitment to making a real difference and living out the values we champion at Columba Leadership.
We are excited to continue supporting Louwville High School’s learner leaders as they bring their plans to life and grow as values-based leaders. Empowering young people in this way is central to our work, and we believe it lays the foundation for stronger, more connected school communities.
